A message from the owner. . .
I am excited to share The Selkie with you and hope you will plan to visit soon. I am a native of Cary, NC and currently reside in Wilson, NC with my family. Growing up in the Historic Downtown Cary home of Marcus B. Dry, I learned to appreciate the expressive romance of the past, the simple, and the unique. I was constantly saturated in textures, patterns, colors, the new, and the old as well as the creative and innovative artistic influences of my wonderful parents. Much of who I am as an artist stems from my childhood. It thrills me to think that as an adult I can utilize my childhood experiences to reinterpret and express myself through not only jewelry design but my gift shop vendors. With the opening of The Selkie in January 2021, I have an opportunity to share my artisan work with visitors and residents of Wilson and, also, share the work of other NC artisans with my same passion to create handmade products that are accessible to everyone.
When you visit The Selkie, please make sure to take a selfie with the new, dynamic State of North Carolina mural! This mural (painted by Amanda) is the perfect backdrop to remember your visit to Historic Downtown Wilson. Additionally, located at the back of The Selkie building are two "cosmos" doors for selfie photos.
